As a manager, it can be hard to get the balance between a disciplinarian management approach, an inspirational leadership style and a supportive mentoring approach.

On this one-day course, experts from multi-award winning The Mentoring School will help you to understand how to use this management style to increase the productivity and engagement of your team.

Who is it aimed at?

This one-day course is aimed at manager and leaders who want to use mentoring as part of their role.

I know what mentoring is, why do I need this training?

Mentoring is the practice of using your experience to guide and advise a mentee, in order for them to be able to take their own actions. As a manager it can be very hard to let the mentee take the lead, there is a natural conflict of interests with their management role compared to an individual-focussed approach.

For example, mentoring conversations are confidential, but if an employee tells you they are struggling with their job, then as a manager you may take action and delegate or speak to others. This immediately breaks the confidentiality and the trust in the mentoring. A trained manager mentor would separate out the mentoring relationship from their line management.

We’ll be discussing topics like:

  • The difference between coaching and mentoring
  • Technical and pastoral mentoring – when to use each
  • Clear and developmental mentoring sessions
  • Using the Mentor’s Mantra to structure mentoring conversations
  • How to use a mentoring approach as a manager
